Hey everyone, it’s Jensen here and I’m stopping by real quick to fill you in on something radical and exciting I’ve decided to take a chance at. I’m sure you can tell by the title of this blog post, but I have decided to try out for American Ninja Warrior!
In a few months, there is a casting call here in Phoenix that I’m going to attend and see if I’ve got what it takes to go up against some of the toughest athletes in the country.
The guys have been giving me a hard time since I turned 30 a few weeks back and they are saying this is more of a mid-life crisis, but I’m telling you, I think I have a pretty good shot at making it to the live shows. I’m not saying I’m gonna win the whole event, but I do think my years of crossfit and overall athleticism give me an edge over some of the other contestants. I mean, half the guys who make it on to American Ninja Warrior made it jumping off of walls and calling it a sport (parkour).
Prepping for the Obstacle Course
So this buddy of mine who works for a criminal defense lawyer in Fort Worth has a connection with a guy who builds obstacle courses specifically designed to help you train to be on American Ninja Warrior. He’s going to come up here to AZ this weekend so we can get the course built and I can get to training properly.
I’ve already started a high protein, high carb diet and have upped my crossfit sessions to five times each week rather than three. Seriously, the obstacle course is going to really make a difference.
I’m going to be sure to add in a warped wall, the salmon ladder, and definitely the body prop because there is no way I’d be able to do that without some dedicated practice. All in all, I’m feeling confident about my odds of making in on-air, at least! I’ll keep you guys posted when I know more.
Three Months Later…
I Got a Call Back!
I meant to post this back when I was preparing for my tryout, but I just got so busy with training and, to be honest, I was a little nervous about sharing such a big goal with you guys, but I am overjoyed to announce that over this past weekend, I was able to complete an initial obstacle course with a bunch of other local athletes and I made the cut to regionals!
I’ll be competing with the next round of contestants coming up in the next three months and if I make it there, I’ll move on and actually be on the show! This is one of the most exciting experiences of my life, and I cannot wait to fill you in on how I do! In the meantime, you can catch me going hard on my customized obstacle course and prepping for July’s semi-finals round.
